The Need to Strategize in Texas Holdem

The fact that a lot of Texas Holdem players, in particular online, struggle and fail to profit is due to the fact that they do not have any strategy. It does not matter if you play in low limit or high stake games; play without a strategy, you will not win.

The problem that a lot of Texas Holdem players face is that they just tend to view the whole thing as a game that is totally dependent on the cards. What happens is that when they make a decision on the pre flop they do not consider its implications for the flop or the turn.

What happens is that every action they do becomes separate, and being disjointed from the rest, makes it impossible to follow through. For example, if you are holding AK under the gun, you do not just raise; you have to consider the implications. Is the table tight or loose? Are your opponents likely to re raise you? Are you prepared to fold if you miss the flop?

Some players just cannot see beyond pre flop. All they can think about is that they have the best hand and will win. You may have the best hand now, but without the proper Texas Holdem strategy it is not likely to hold up.

With a basic Texas Holdem strategy in mind, you will be in a much better position to handle the hand. With a proper game plan, every action that you undertake will not just consider what its effect will be for this part of the game (i.e. pre flop) but also what it can mean later on.

A sound Texas Holdem strategy will take into consideration a number of factors, including your bankroll, the limit you are playing in, where and when you decide to play, the format (tournament, cash game, shorthanded etc) as well as other factors. By taking all of these into account, you will be able to formulate a basic plan that you will follow through in the session.

Playing without a strategy in Texas Holdem is like driving a car with a blindfold. There is simply no way you can win on a consistent basis. You will end up like the tourists who reduce the whole game to a gamble. Learn to play with a strategy, and you will be in control, able to make the decisions that can help you win the pot.
