The World Poker Tour Walk of Fame

There are very many different poker TV programs on the air today, and one of the highest-rated ones is the World Poker Tour, which is a set of international Texas Hold'em tournaments that are held mostly in the United States.

One of the biggest draws to the World Poker Tour, and to most poker tournaments today, is the fact that anyone can participate in them. The only conditions are if a player is willing to pay the "buy-in" to participate in a tournament, which is usually an amount that can be anywhere from two thousand five hundred US dollars, to twenty-five thousand dollars; or if they win a satellite tournament. Many satellite tournaments are held online, which makes it even more accessible to poker fans. Individuals who manage to get into any World Poker Tour tournament have the chance to compete with top poker professionals, as well as be on TV.

For its first five seasons, the World Poker Tour was aired on the Travel Channel, but on its sixth season, WPT Enterprises, the company handling the World Poker Tour, transferred the program to GSN, the Game Show Network. It has announced that for its seventh season, the World Poker Tour will be aired on FSN.

Because the World Poker Tour caters to a fairly wide audience, it has announced that it will also have a set of tournaments especially for women. It will be called WPT ladies, and the first season of this particular program will feature five events with buy-ins that range from three hundred dollars, to one thousand, five hundred dollars.

Aside from the Texas Hold'em tournaments that comprise most of the World Poker Tour, there is also a World Poker Tour Walk of Fame. This Walk of Fame is meant to honor great poker professionals who have helped promote the game through television, film, and literature, and those who have played the game well at its highest levels. Introduced in 2004, the WPT Walk of Fame's first and only members thus far have been Doyle Brunson, James Garner, and Gus Hansen. The ceremony for the World Poker Tour Walk of Fame's induction was held at the Commerce Casino in February. The ceremony was attended by many of the top poker professionals and celebrities who happened to be in the area thanks to the World Poker Tour Invitational Poker Tournament. Since 2004, there have been no new inductees into the World Poker Tour Walk of Fame.
